1 dead in west metro shooting late Sunday night

It happened west of I-494 and south of Hwy. 55 in Plymouth.

One person is dead another is in custody after a shooting in Plymouth on Sunday night. 

Plymouth Police Department says it was dispatched to the 3100 block of Walnut Grove Lane at 11:11 p.m. on a report of a shooting, and upon arrival officers were greeted at the door by the suspect. 

The suspect was arrested without incident and taken into custody. 

Inside the home was a 42-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Police treated him at the scene before he was transported by ambulance to North Memorial Health Hospital, where he died early Monday morning. 

Police say the investigation is ongoing and that the suspect is cooperating. There is no threat to the public. 

According to the Hennepin County jail log, the suspect is a 44-year-old man from Albuquerque, New Mexico, who the Star Tribune reports used to be a prosecutor in Benalillo County, New Mexico before becoming a defense attorney.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will release the victim's identity at a later date.
