1 killed, 1 critically injured in Elk River crash

A 71-year-old man died in the crash.

A man was killed and a woman injured in a two-vehicle crash in Elk River on Tuesday morning. 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened around 7:55 a.m. when a 2009 Nissan Murano in the left lane of eastbound Hwy. 10 collided with a 2003 Buick LeSabre that pulled out in front of it while turning onto westbound Hwy. 10 from 167th St. NW. 

The driver of the LeSabre, 71-year-old Robert Eugene Larson, of Elk River, was transported to Mercy Hospital in Elk River where he later died from his injuries. 

The passenger in the LeSabre, identified as Fern Ellen Larson, 68, of Elk River, was transported to the same hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

A 30-year-old Big Lake woman driving the Nissan was not injured in the crash.
