Christmas Day turned tragic in the southern Minnesota city of Austin on Friday. Authorities say a house fire left one person dead Friday afternoon.

According to the Star Tribune, Fire Chief Jim McCoy said the fire broke out just after 3 p.m. at a home just south of the city.

ABC 6 reports that no one else was in the home at the time of the fire. But authorities have not released the name of the victim pending an autopsy and notification of family.

Fire-related deaths have spiked in 2015 – at least 52 Minnesotans have died in fires – compared to 44 in 2014. It's the highest number of Minnesotans killed in fires since 2011.

The state fire marshal is investigating the official cause of the fire, but so far no further details have been made available.
