1 person killed, another injured in fire at Hudson home

The amount of "combustible material" in the home made it difficult for firefighters.

A 70-year-old man died and a 63-year-old woman was injured in a house fire in Hudson, Wisconsin, Wednesday evening.

According to the Hudson Fire Department, police and fire responded to the home at 416 Locust St. in Hudson at 6:26 p.m. to find the home engulfed in flames.

One of the two owners of the home, Jane Ellwood, 63, escaped the blaze and was taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment. The other owner, David Ellwood, died in the fire.

"Access to the residence was difficult due to the amount of combustible property within the residence," the release said,

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
