A person was shot and killed near a St. Paul gas station and bus stop Thursday, with police now searching for the suspected shooter.
The St. Paul Police Department said the incident happened that afternoon, at the intersection of Suburban Avenue and White Bear Avenue. The department provided an update later Thursday, offering more details.
The department said "shots" were first fired around 12:50 p.m. When officers arrived they found an adult male with a gunshot wound, lying in a parking lot. He was taken to Regions Hospital and pronounced dead, police said.
A motive isn't clear and as of 4:30 p.m., the police department had not made any arrests. Investigators are hoping to speak with witnesses to determine what led up to the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 651-266-5650.
This is the 28th homicide of the year in the city. A photo posted by the police department shows crime scene tape around the parking lot of a BP gas station, as well as a bus shelter. The BP is located next to a Davanni's, and Arby's and a smoke shop, just off the White Bear Avenue I-94 exit.
Thursday's shooting marks the 28th homicide of the year in St. Paul. That figure includes the shootings of four people later found dead in an abandoned SUV in Wisconsin, which prosecutors believe happened in the city. There were 34 homicides in St. Paul last year, according to the city's report.
St. Paul police said it would release more information soon.
