11-year-old boy killed in ATV crash in Meeker County

He was pinned under the ATV after a crash on Monday afternoon.

An 11-year-old boy has been killed in an ATV accident in central Minnesota.

The accident happened on land in Harvey Township, northwest of Litchfield, at 4:13 p.m. on Monday.

The boy, identified as Caleb Karnitz of Hutchinson, was reportedly trapped under the ATV and was not breathing.

Police say that Karnitz was riding alone and the ATV flipped after taking a hard turn, landing on the boy. 

CPR was started before paramedics arrived, with lifesaving efforts continuing at the scene before he was airlifted by LifeLink III to St. Cloud Hospital.

Sadly, it was there that he sadly succumbed to his injuries and died.

"The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident; however it appears to be an accident," the sheriff's office said in a press release.
