The west-central Minnesota boy critically injured in a grain silo accident on Saturday has died.

An update on the condition of Alex Boesl was posted on his CaringBridge page Thursday evening, confirming he had succumbed to his injuries.

"We have witnessed so much good from this tragedy," the update reads. "The prayer vigils, help on the farms, meals from PKU families, outpouring of prayers from far and wide for a Christmas miracle..."

"It is with broken hearts that we realize that God’s will is not the same as our wishes," it adds.

Alex Boesl has been at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis since Saturday, when he was overcome with fumes alongside his father, Curt, at a silo in Millerville, Minnesota.

Alex's uncle, Curt's brother Steve Boesl entered the silo to help, but he too was overcome by the fumes and died, with Curt Boesl dying a day later.

The Boesl family had asked for prayers for Alex, with an update on Wednesday stating doctors were slowly taking him off of sedation so as to determine the extent of his injuries.

"Although a miracle didn’t happen here for us, eternal life in the House of God is the most beautiful of all miracles," the CaringBridge update continues. "Pray for Alex’s family, as we prepare to say goodbye to our sweet boy.

"Through our faith, we have no doubt that Alex will be united with his dad in Heaven, as Curt waits for him with arms wide open."

The post notes that Alex's organs will be donated, with his "Christmas miracle ... giving life to others."

Grain silos can fill with gas through the fermentation of silage, with the Star Tribune noting that either carbon dioxide or nitrogen dioxide present particular risks.

If a silo is filled with colorless, odorless CO2, someone entering it can be overcome within seconds.

A GoFundMe for the Boesl families has now surpassed $45,000. You can find it here.
