A 13-year-old boy who was pulled from a lake in Eagan on Jan. 28 died the next day at the hospital.
Jeylon Elijah Holloway, of Bloomington, died from freshwater drowning at University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital at 4:21 a.m. on Jan. 29, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office said Tuesday.
He was found underwater and unresponsive in Lemay Lake at 2:15 p.m. on Jan. 28 after he had been reported missing at 1:30 p.m., the Dakota County Sheriff's Office said.
Police found a shoe near the lake, with the sheriff's office saying it's believed he fell into the open water near a drainage culvert.
Jeylon was bringing his dog, Chloe, for a walk when he fell into the lake, a Go Fund Me page set up by Levanita Haynes says. Chloe returned to the hotel without Jeylon, so his brother went to look for him. His mom, Winona Holloway, called police when they couldn't find him.
The Holloways had recently moved back to Minnesota after Winona Holloway was laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the page says. They were staying at the Sonesta ES Suites in Eagan.
The fundraiser describes Jeylon as an "outgoing, fun-loving and adventurous" boy who liked playing video games and coding games. He was being homeschooled through Oak Grove Middle School in Bloomington
The Go Fund Me page was set up to help the family pay for Jaylon's funeral expenses. It has a goal of raising $7,000, and as of Wednesday morning, it had raised $6,705.
