A 15-vehicle pileup on Hwy. 169 in the northwest Twin Cities caused the closure of the highway Wednesday morning.
The incident happened near the overpass with I-94 east of Maple Grove at 4:45 a.m., with the Minnesota State Patrol saying it was sparked when a person who was outside their vehicle being struck by another vehicle.
The Brooklyn Park Police Department said the subsequent pileup has resulted in "several injuries" and Hwy. 169 would be shut down for a "significant amount of time."
The highway was still closed at of 7 a.m., with traffic being diverted onto I-94.
There were slick conditions reported overnight following light snowfall combined with temperatures reaching freezing point.
More details are expected to be released as to injuries as the day progresses.
