15-year-old driver killed after car crashes into tree near Little Falls

He was driving the vehicle that crashed, police say.

A 15-year-old boy was killed and two other teenagers injured when their car crashed into a tree near Little Falls.

Riley Ballou, of Randall, Minnesota, was driving the car that left the road and crashed in Morrison County just before 8 p.m. Saturday.

It happened on Forest Road in Green Prairie Township, north of Little Falls, with the car crashing into a tree, with Ballou dying at the scene.

The 15- and- 16-year-old passengers, both boys, were taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where their conditions were described as "fair."

The Morrison County Sheriff's Office said it's investigating the crash, as is the Minnesota State Patrol.

In Minnesota, you can get an instruction permit that allows you to drive as young as 15, however you must be accompanied by a driving instructor, parent/guardian, or an adult over the age of 21.

Ballou attended Little Falls Community Schools, which released a statement to KARE 11, saying there will be grief support staff available at the high school to counsel those affected by the 10th grader's death.

"We ask that you please keep his family in your thoughts," it added.
