A 17-year-old girl was fatally shot in Minneapolis and a 22-year-old man was killed in another incident of gun violence in Columbia Heights Monday night.

The teenage girl was the victim of multiple gunshot wounds, which were reported to Minneapolis Police Department through ShotSpotter at 11:26 p.m. on the 2300 block of James Ave. N., which is just east of the Robbinsdale-Minneapolis border.

Officers were en route to the scene when they were informed that a 17-year-old girl suffering from gunshot wounds was dropped off at North Memorial Health Hospital's emergency room, where she died a short time after arriving.

It marks the 50th homicide in Minneapolis this year.

Less than an hour earlier, a separate shooting was reported at 10:36 p.m. in Columbia Heights. The gunfire on the 4600 block of Central Ave. NE resulted in a 22-year-old man being wounded in a parking lot.

The victim was transported by ambulance to North Memorial Health Hospital where he died from his injuries, according to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. He has been identified as Charles Ray Mosby Jr, of Anoka.

The sheriff's office said a vehicle with an unknown number of suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

Both homicides remain under investigation. The 17-year-old victim has not been identified.
