18-month-old boy bitten by relative's dog in Olmsted County
An 18-month-old boy was bitten by a relative's dog Sunday evening in Olmsted County, and now the dog will be euthanized.
The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office says it responded at 5:46 p.m. to a home on the 3200 block of Grand View Lane Southwest in Salem Township to a dog bite incident.
An 18-month-old boy who lives at the home had been bitted by a 10-year-old black lab/German shepherd mix. He suffered injuries to the back of his head and was unconscious, with the sheriff's office noting he may have stopped breathing at one point. The boy suffered "significant blood loss" from the bite, but his condition has not been released.
The dog is owned by a close family relative and the owner has made the decision to have the dog euthanized.
"At this time, the details of the incident are not known as the official report has not been filed," the sheriff's office said. "At this time, out of concern for the family’s privacy, the identities of those involved will not be released. Additionally, the medical condition of the child is unknown, and it is at the discretion of the child’s parents to determine when, and if, that information will be released."
The sheriff's office added, "We send our prayers to the family involved in this traumatic and difficult time."
