Two Minnesotans named American Rhodes Scholars

Thirty-two American students were named to the 2013 class of Rhodes Scholar, which includes two students from Minnesota, the Star Tribune reports. Clayton P. Aldern, of Cedar, Minn., and Georgianna H. Whiteley, of Wayzata, Minn., will be awarded scholarships to study at the University of Oxford in England.

Aldern is a senior at Brown University where he majors in neuroscience. He is also active as a peer advisor, a journalist, as editor-in-chief of a magazine of the Brown Daily Herald, and is committed to increasing scientific literacy in American culture, according to a news release.

Whiteley is a senior at Luther College where she majors in chemistry and minors in biology. She is a varsity tennis player as well as an active youth mentor, and in Habitat for Humanity and other community projects, according to a news release.
