The 100-year-old Minnesota Governor's Residence appears to be in for a major upgrade.

The Associated Press reports that state officials are pushing ahead with a $2.6 million renovation of the facility.

The first phase of the project mostly includes an upgrade to the Summit Avenue mansion's exterior.

The state's Department of Administration put out an advertisement Monday for a general contractor to oversee the project. Work is expected to begin in June, says the agency's legislative and communications director Curtis Yoakum.

Ramsey County property tax records peg the property's value at $2.7 million.

The 20-room English Tudor-style mansion was donated to the State of Minnesota in 1965 by the two daughters of Horace and Clotilde Irvine, the original owners of the residence.

Horace Hills Irvine, a St. Paul lumberman and lawyer, built the residence in 1912 at a cost of $50,000.
