2 active duty soldiers killed in shooting at Grand Forks Air Force Base

The shooting happened before dawn Monday.

A shooting at the Grand Forks Air Force Base has left two people dead Monday morning. 

According to officials from the base, the shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. Killed in the shooting were two 319th Reconnaissance Wing active duty military members. 

Details are limited, but the scene is contained and base officials believe there is no risk to other personnel at this time. The shooting remains under investigation.  

"Out of respect for their families, the names and units of the victims will be withheld until 24 hours after next-of-kin notification. We ask for the time and space needed to make these proper notifications through official channels," Grand Forks Air Force Base said in a statement. 

"Base medical teams have deployed disaster mental health to care for those impacted."
