2 charged in cocaine, meth bust could have ties to Mexican ring

Two men are facing felony drug charges after a traffic stop and a raid on their Inver Grove Heights home netted nearly six pounds of cocaine and three pounds of methamphetamine.

The Pioneer Press reports the drugs are worth $120,00 and $30,000, respectively, and weaves a narrative that may lead back to a drug bust in May that police believe has ties to a Mexican distribution ring.

Mike Sanchez, 27, and Jesue Ivan Ledezma-Lopez, 22 were charged Thursday in Dakota County District Court with first-degree drug possession and sale. Both remained jailed Thursday with bail set at $500,000, the paper reports.

WCCO reports that the Dakota County Drug Task Force also seized a little more than an ounce of marijuana and $22,000 in cash.

The PiPress says Sanchez had agreed to sell a large amount of cocaine to an informant, and authorities pulled over his car en route to the deal. There, they discovered two-pound brick of cocaine. Police executed a search warrant on Sanchez's home later in the day, where they also arrested Ledezma-Lopez.

Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom tells 'CCO the bust was more than three times the amount of cocaine seized in all of 2012 in Dakota County.

The Pioneer Press cites a drug task force agent who believes the drugs come from the same Mexican distribution ring tied to Albert Morris Johnson, a Burnsville barbershop owner from whose home police seized 12 pounds of meth in May.
