Two people were killed and five others injured in a crash in southern Minnesota.
The crash happened Sunday at 5:50 p.m. near Sleepy Eye in Brown County on Hwy. 14 at County Road 10, according to a crash report from the Minnesota State Patrol.
A 2005 Ford Five Hundred was going south on County Road 10 and failed to stop at a stop sign, entering the lanes of traffic on Hwy. 14 where it was broadsided by a 2003 Ford Windstar.
The driver of the Ford Five Hundred, identified as Terry Robert Besemer, 51, of New Ulm, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol was detected on Besemer, according to the crash report.
There were six people – three adults and three children – in the Ford Windstar, including passenger Maricella Alvarado De Leon, 54, of Hildago, Texas, who was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt.
The others injured in the vehicle include:
- 49-year-old Sleepy Eye woman (non-life-threatening injuries)
- 64-year-old woman (life-threatening injuries)
- 10-year-old boy (non-life-threatening injuries)
- 8-year-old boy (life-threatening injuries)
- 8-year-old boy (non-life-threatening injuries)
It's unknown where the 64-year-old woman and three children are from, nor is it clear if any of them were wearing a seat belt.
