2 dead in crash that shut down Hwy. 65 for 4 hours Monday

The crash happened approximately 10 miles north of Cambridge.

Two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash that shut down Hwy. 65 north of the Twin Cities for nearly four hours Monday. 

The crash happened around 6:35 p.m. on Hwy. 65 at Rice Lake Road in Isanti County, with the Minnesota State Patrol reporting that a 2020 Jeep Gladiator driven by a 16-year-old St. Paul girl was traveling south before drifting across the northbound lanes into a ditch and striking a tree. 

There were five people in the Jeep at the time of the crash: 16-year-old driver; 14-year-old girl from Grant, Minnesota; 12-year-old girl from Grant; 51-year-old woman from Grant; 44-year-old man from Birchwood, Minnesota.  

Full identities of the victims and survivors haven't been released. 

Hwy. 65 near the crash was closed until 10:30 p.m.
