2 dead in head-on crash involving pickups near Minnesota-Wisconsin border

A head-on crash in western Wisconsin killed two people late Thursday night. 

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on Hwy. 35 north of 90th Ave. on the northeast end of Osceola, near the Minnesota-Wisconsin border, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. 

Preliminary results of an investigation reveal that a man was driving a GMC pickup southbound on Hwy. 35 while a man and woman in another GMC pickup were northbound on the highway when they collided in the northbound lane. 

On arrival, first responders found the man and woman both unconscious with the pickup overturned on its side. The other driver was moving around but suffered substantial injuries. His pickup stayed upright. 

The man and woman who were unconscious died at the scene, while the other motorist was extricated from his truck and then transported to Osceola Medical Center before being airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. His current condition is unknown. 

The identities of the victims have not been released and the crash is under investigation.
