2 Gopher student-athletes jailed on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct
Two wrestlers from the University of Minnesota have been arrested and are being held in Hennepin County Adult Detention Center on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct, according to multiple reports.
The University of Minnesota has confirmed that two athletes are subjects of a "situation" and have been suspended, according to a statement provided to KARE 11.
"We are aware of a situation involving two of our student athletes and are in the process of gathering more information. These students have been suspended from all team activity pending further information. Federal and state law precludes any further details at this time."
The U of M has not confirmed any names nor said which sports the athletes participate in.
This is a developing story.
KSTP-TV and the Pioneer Press report that Hennepin County Jail records show that the two students were arrested at different times at different locations on Saturday night.
Both outlets have named the students involved, but it's BMTN policy to typically not name suspects until they have been formally charged.
