At least two children were injured Monday morning when an SUV fleeing police slammed into playground equipment at a Minneapolis park.

"There was a group of children and the preliminary investigation shows that at least two were transported to the hospital," State Patrol Captain Jason Bartell said in a press conference.

The extent of their injuries is unknown, although multiple reports say they are serious.

The chase ended when the suspect drove the Ford Expedition through a tennis court and then plunged into sand before crashing into a swing set at Bohanon Park, near Jenny Lind Elementary School in north Minneapolis.

Bartell said pursuit of the suspect began around 9:30 a.m. near Interstate 94 and 53rd Avenue and ended a short time later at the park. The suspect ran from the scene before being tracked down by troopers on foot and taken into custody.
