Two people have died and a child seriously injured after a car was in a collision with a freight truck in the southwest metro on Wednesday.

The collision was reported at 11:49 a.m. at Eagle Creek Avenue and Natchez Avenue in Credit River Township, between Lakeville and Prior Lake.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office says that a 2005 Toyota Corolla was heading east on Eagle Creek Avenue when it struck a truck turning onto southbound onto Natchez Avenue from the westbound turn lane on Eagle Creek.

There were three people inside the Corolla, two of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. The third occupant, a boy, was taken to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, where he's in a serious condition.

The driver of the freight truck, a 28-year-old man from Maplewood, was uninjured.

It's not been determined if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

"This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victims,” said Scott County Sheriff Luke Hennen.
