Separate shootings reported 11 minutes apart left two people dead in Minneapolis early Saturday morning.
Minneapolis police say they were alerted at 1:37 a.m. of a gunshot victim arriving at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Officers responded tot he hospital and learned that a woman had died from her gunshot injuries.
Eleven minutes later, at 1:48 a.m., police were dispatched to to an area under the bridge at East Lake Street and Hiawatha Avenue, where a person had been shot. The man was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center in grave condition and died a short time later.
In the first shooting, homicide detectives located a crime scene on the 2200 block of North 2nd Street. The investigation is ongoing.
Police then learned that the second shooting victim was struck by a stray bullet when two motorists began shooting at one another.
Homicide detectives were informed that "a group of people in cars took over the portion of the East Lake street where Hiawatha passes over it." The news release says the "people in cars were driving recklessly and spinning around in their cars causing damage to the roadway when two of the individuals got into a dispute" and began shooting.
The victim allegedly pulled over to watch the vehicles and he was standing outside his vehicle when he was struck by the stray bullet, police said.
No arrests have been reported by police in either shooting.
