The Aitkin County Sheriff's Office has arrested two teenage girls connected to threats made against students at Hill City School in northern Minnesota on Thursday.

According to the sheriff's office, the ages of the girls are 15 and 13, and they were arrested around 4 p.m. Thursday. Formal charges are pending, but officials say the girls didn't have plans to follow through with their threats.

Here's the official press release language from the office.

"At around 4:00 p.m. yesterday, two juvenile females, ages 15 and 13, were arrested for terroristic threats in connection with this incident. There was no known plan to carry out the acts. Formal charges are pending. Both girls remain in juvenile detention."

The threats were taken seriously and Hill City School was closed as a precaution Thursday.

School is back in session today.

The school's Facebook page called the threats a "hoax," and that all students and staff are not in any danger.

Hill City is located in north-central, Minnesota, on Hwy. 169 just south of Grand Rapids.

Multiple schools in Minnesota have dealt with hoax threats and more serious threats since 17 people were killed in a Parkland, Florida school shooting last week.
