Two young men were found dead inside a home near the small southwest Minnesota town of Arco on Saturday morning.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call was received around 2 a.m. Saturday reporting two people found dead at 2215 County Road 111, in rural Arco.

Authorities arrived and found 18-year-old Christian Alan Muecke and 19-year-old Jacob Allen Peterson, of Russell, dead inside Muecke's bedroom. .

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner revealed that Peterson's cause of death was homicide from a gunshot wound. Muecke died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a shotgun was discovered in the room.

Peterson graduated from Russell-Tyler-Ruthton High School in 2017 and Muecke was in his senior year at the school, according to the Marshall Independent.

Crisis teams are expected to remain at the high school all week.

"We had the crisis team here (Monday), helping with staff,” Superintendent David Marlette said in an email to school families, as reported by the Marshall Independent.

"Some of the students came in for help, too. We have a crisis plan in place, but we met very early this morning to put our crisis plan into operation. We need to keep it as normal as possible, but any students who need to see a counselor or staff, all they need to do is let us know and we’ll get them in front of people. That’s what we’ll do all week."

An investigation in the incident is ongoing and there is no threat to the public, the sheriff's office says.
