Fatal crash in Pierce County, Wisconsin

The second fatal motorcycle crash happened just before 5 p.m. Sunday in Pierce County, Wisconsin. According to the sheriff's office, it involved multiple vehicles on Hwy. 35 near 1005th Street in Hager City.

It's been determined by investigators that a 47-year-old Kathy Kahler, of Lonsdale, Minnesota, was driving a 2014 Yamaha motorcycle north on Hwy. 35 when she attempted to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone.

She was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the motorcycle, striking a guardrail causing her to be thrown from the bike. Kahler was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time Kahler lost control and crashed, a 23-year-old Ian Gardiner was thrown from his Harley Davidson motorcycle as he laid it down on the roadway in an effort to avoid colliding with Kahler's motorcycle.

Gardiner was transported to a hospital with unknown injuries.

A third vehicle involved – a 2009 Pontiac Vibe – collided with Kahler's motorcycle as it hit the guardrail. The 20-year-old driver of the car was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
