Twenty episodes of the Minnesota-made cult TV classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 are on Netflix now.
The "classic" episodes include biggies like "Manos: The Hands of Fate" and "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians." Here's the link to its Netflix page.
The MST3K episodes were added to Netflix Wednesday, the show's Facebook page says. Here's the post with the list of all 20 episodes:
For Netflix, this is essentially a nostalgia-based advertisement for its Mystery Science Theater 3000 reboot that debuts in April.
Back at the controls for the series is the Wisconsin-born Joel Hodgson, who created MST3K and debuted it on KTMA public TV in Minneapolis in 1988 (the series eventually moved to Comedy Central before being picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel a few years later).
He left the show in 1993 over creative differences, and it was ultimately canceled in 1999. But last year, Hodgson launched a Kickstarter campaign to resurrect the series, it was super successful, and Netflix swooped in to pick it up.
You can read more about the reboot – which includes Jonah Ray as the new host, comedy actor Patton Oswalt playing the Son of TV’s Frank, and actress Felicia Day as Kinga Forrester – in this story.
