22-year-old passenger dies after semi fails to yield in Renville County

A 22-year-old woman has died after being involved in a two-vehicle crash in southwest Minnesota on Friday, June 21.  

The crash happened at the intersection of County Road 4 and County Road 1 in Renville County, about eight miles south of Danube, according to the Renville County Sheriff's Office. 

A release says the driver of the semi, a 62-year-old man from Bird Island, stopped at a stop sign but failed to yield, causing a northbound Subaru to collide with it. 

The passenger in the Subaru, 22-year-old Madison Vagle, of Redwood Falls, was airlifted from the scene to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities where she died from her injuries. 

The driver of the Subaru, an 18-year-old woman from Franklin, was transported to a hospital in Redwood Falls and then airlifted to to North Memorial Hospital. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to the sheriff's office.

The semi driver was taken to Renville County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Minnesota State Patrol and the Renville County Sheriff's Office are investigating the crash. 

As of Tuesday, the Minnesota Department of Traffic Safety reports that there have been 144 traffic deaths on Minnesota roads so far in 2019, compared to 148 at the same time in 2018.
