A two-vehicle crash in Victoria proved fatal Tuesday evening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

A crash report says the drivers of a 1997 Buick Riviera and a 2019 Chevy Silverado were eastbound on Hwy. 5 around 7:50 p.m. when the Silverado T-boned the Buick on the driver's side as the driver attempted to make a U-turn at Park Drive.

The driver of the Buick, 23-year-old D'Artagnan Scott-James Schlagel, of Norwood Young America, was transported to a local hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt, the State Patrol said.

The driver of the Chevy, a 39-year-old Isanti man, suffered minor injuries. The crash report says alcohol was detected on the man, but it's unclear if alcohol played a role in the collision.

There have been 129 fatalities on Minnesota roads so far in 2020, which is five fewer than there were at the same point last year, according to the Office of Traffic Safety.
