A 28-year-old central Minnesota man died Sunday evening after attempting to retrieve a bobber from a lake.
The man, from Hawick, had been out fishing on the dock of nearby North Long Lake, according to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office. Just before 8 p.m. he went into the water to get a bobber.
During his retrieval efforts, he "began to struggle" and went under the surface, then never came back up, according to the sheriff's office. He was not wearing a life vest at the time.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene and searched the lake. They found the man and attempted life-saving measures, the sheriff's office said, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office is not naming the victim yet as they notify family.
