2nd person dies days after wrong-way crash on Highway 2 near Bemidji

The driver of a wrong-way vehicle that crashed head-on with a car Monday night near Bemidji is now the second victim in the deadly crash. 

The Minnesota State Patrol updated the crash report Wednesday after learning that the driver of a Subaru Forester, 73-year-old Margaret K. Porter, of Bemidji, died from her injuries. They were initially described as "life-threatening." She was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo the night of the crash. 

The passenger in the Subaru, 82-year-old Russell K. Porter, of Bemidji, was pronounced dead at the scene on Monday night. 

According to the State Patrol, the Porters were in the Subaru traveling east in the westbound lanes of Hwy. 2 when they collided head-on with a Pontiac G6 driven by a 21-year-old Fosston woman. 

The 21-year-old suffered injuries and was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji following the 11:10 p.m. crash, then later released, according to the State Patrol report. 

The Bemidji Pioneer reports the crash happened in the 6500 block of Hwy. 2 near Pete's Place West.
