Authorities are investigating two fatal crashes in the Twin Cities area, one that killed two people Friday night and another single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a driver early Saturday morning.
2 die in Apple Valley crash
According to Apple Valley Police Department, two men were killed when their vehicle was hit by semi around 9 p.m. Friday.
The crash happened on Pilot Knob Road, south of County Road 42. First responders arrived at the scene and found a small sedan in the center median, with the semi-trailer to the south and blocking both lanes of traffic.
Police say two men in the car were ejected and died. The semi driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Their identities have not been released.
1 dead in Plymouth crash
The second fatal crash in the metro area happened during the early morning hours of Saturday in Plymouth. The Minnesota State Patrol documented the crash happened at 1:22 a.m. on Interstate 494 at County Road 6.
The crash report says a 30-year-old St. Cloud man driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on I-494 when the vehicle drifted to the shoulder and hit an unoccupied vehicle that was stalled.
Alcohol was detected on the driver, identified as Michael Paul Harvey, who was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
