The Fillmore County Sheriff's Office is investigating after two neglected horses were found dead and a third died as a result of its poor condition.
Sheriff John DeGeorge reported that two of 10 horses were found dead on a property in the 30300 block of Hwy. 30 near Chatfield in southeast Minnesota on March 25.
The eight living horses were sent to Anoka Equine Veterinary Services in Otsego for care and treatment, but one of them died last Friday, March 29.
That's according to the Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation, which is accepting donations to help pay for veterinary and rehabilitation costs for the animals.
The horse that died Friday was a gelding that was unable to stand.
According to Fox 9, the horses were moderately to severely malnourished, also suffering from skin and dental infections.
An investigation is ongoing and the owner of the horses could face charges from the Fillmore County Attorney's Office.
