New reports have raised the death toll of a shooting in northern California.

CNN is reporting that five people died in the attacks in Rancho Tehama on Tuesday. One of the dead is the gunman, who was shot and killed by police after taking his shooting spree to an elementary school.

Before that, the shooter opened fire in at least seven other locations, CNN says. Police told ABC News 10 people remain hospitalized, including at least two children.

According to the New York Times, the gunman was armed with a semiautomatic rifle and two handguns. His motive is unknown.

His identity has not been officially released, either. However, a man who said he was a neighbor of the gunman told Action News Now that the shooter was his neighbor. He was described as a "known felon in his 50s named Kevin."

Initial reports are coming out about a mass shooting at a school in California.

According to the Associated Press, three people have been killed in the attack in rural Northern California. The shooter was killed after also wounding children at school, the AP says.

KCRA is reporting that the shooting started at a home in Tehama County before moving to an elementary school.

Multiple shots were fired around 8 a.m. at Rancho Tehama School on the outskirts of Corning, Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston told KCRA. Rancho Tehama is about 115 miles north of the state capital of Sacramento.

Action News Now reporter Sara Stinson has been sharing several updates on Twitter. In this video Stinson posted, a member of law enforcement says the shooter was shot and killed by police:

According to other updates on Stinson's page, the shooter opened fire on five different sites before ending up at the elementary school.

A Corning Unified School district employee confirmed with WDSU News there were injuries at the school, but did not say whether students were among the dead.

This man claims to know the shooter's identity:

This is a developing story. GoMN will provide updates as they come in.
