A 3-year-old child has died after being recovered from a swimming area at a lake in west-central Minnesota.

According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office, the 3-year-old "had been pulled from the water unconscious at the Eagle Lake public swimming area" around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, July 24.

Three people who were at the scene began CPR before first responders got the lake, at which point the child was airlifted by a Life Link medical helicopter to a hospital in the Twin Cities.

Tragically, the child did not survive, according to an update from the sheriff's office on Monday.

The child's identity has not been released and no further information is currently available.
