The parents of a 3-year-old girl who was found dead Sunday in St. Paul have been arrested.
Saint Paul Police Department officers went to a home on the 1000 block of E. 3rd Street after a man called the department's non-emergency line around 2:30 a.m. Sunday and hung up.
Upon arrival, the man who called police said "he thought his 3-year-old daughter was dead on the back porch," St. Paul PD said in a news release. The officers found the girl on the porch, where she was unconscious and unresponsive. Paramedics pronounced the girl dead at the scene.
The parents, a 42-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, were arrested and booked in the Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of murder, first having been taken to police headquarters where they were interviewed.
Five other children in the home – ages 9 months to 11 years old – were removed from the home and are now being cared for by Ramsey County Child Protection.
Circumstances that led to the girl's death are under investigation, and her identity has not been released.
The child's death marks the first homicide in St. Paul this year. Minnesota's capital city had 31 homicides in 2020.
