A 34-year-old man died when he crashed his motorcycle in Lakeville Saturday night.
Manuel Alejandro Manrique of Burnsville crashed near 175th Street West and Gettysburg Way in Lakeville at 6:43 p.m., the medical examiner says. He was taken to the hospital, where he died an hour and a half later.
The medical examiner says he died of multiple blunt force injuries.
According to the Lakeville Police Department's report, an officer arrived to find Manrique unresponsive with blood on his face and head. A nurse at the scene said he had been unresponsive the whole time and she wasn't getting a strong pulse.
The officer noticed brake marks on the road and paint on the curb, and a witness said it looked as if Manrique was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to losing control and hitting the curb, causing him to go headfirst over the handlebars, the report said.
The officer noted it looked as if the motorcycle went on its side for about 20 yards before the handlebar got lodged in the grass.
From January-June of this year, 206 people have been killed in traffic-related crashes, 30 of whom were motorcyclists, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety says.
In total, there were 394 traffic deaths on Minnesota roads in 2020.
