Four people were rescued after an overloaded boat capsized on a lake in Voyageurs National Park Sunday night.
Three adults and a 7-year-old girl from the Twin Cities left the Ash River Visitor Center en route to a campsite on Namakan Lake when their boat, which was overloaded with people and gear, took on water and capsized, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says.
One of the passengers called 911 to report the capsized boat in Namakan Lake, east of Old Dutch Bay and south of Ziski Island (about 3.5 miles by water from the visitor center), at about 9 p.m.
Other boaters in the area rescued the four people — a 42-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl, all from Crystal, as well as a 39-year-old man from St. Paul — who were all wearing lifejackets. They were brought to the visitor center.
No one was injured.
