It's going to beautiful and dry on the Fourth of July, KARE 11 says.

KARE meteorologist Sven Sundgaard says the forecast for Independence Day calls for highs in the low 80s in eastern and central Minnesota with a few clouds expected throughout the day.

The sun is expected to set about 9:03 p.m. Friday in the Twin Cities and complete darkness is expected about 9:45 p.m. Temperatures are expected in the mid-70s in time for fireworks on Friday night.

As for rain dampening any the celebrations, it appears that a chance of that happening won't be until late for the Twin Cities area, but thunderstorms are expected in northern Minnesota.

The National Weather Service is a little more conservative with its high temperature prediction Friday, pegging it at 80 degrees.

KSTP meteorologists Ken Barlow and Jonathan Yuhas say the best chance for any showers for the metro area this weekend won't come until midnight Friday night and last a 12-hour period until about noon Saturday.

The station says highs will approach 90 degrees Sunday, making it the warmest day of the three-day holiday weekend. If the temperature eclipses 90, it will be the first time the temperature has hit the mark here this year.

WCCO says there will be a chance of thunderstorms and is forecasting a high of 88. The NWS says there's a 40 percent chance of showers and Thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

Summing up the forecast the 4th of July weekend, the Star Tribune's Paul Douglas says, "all in all," the weather is "better than average for the biggest holiday of summer."

Douglas also says after Minnesota suffered through a the "most severe winter in a generation" and "swarms of monsoon-like storms" and the flooding that followed, this weekend's weather "is our consolation gift."

If hot temperatures are what you're looking for, the best chance to get them is this month. FOX 9 meteorologist Steve Frazier says July typically brings the warmest temperatures of the year, with an average high of 84 degrees.
