5 kids injured in crash involving school bus in northern Minnesota

There were 32 children on the bus.

A bus carrying 32 children was involved in a crash on Hwy. 169 near Virginia, Minnesota, Wednesday morning, and five of the kids were sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened on southbound Hwy. 169 at County Road 17 in Itasca County around 8:35 a.m.

The crash was caused when a 49-year-old Grand Rapids man driving a Ford pickup started to turn left at CR 17 only to change his mind and head back into the southbound lane of Hwy. 169.

The Ford truck hit the school bus and then ran into a Dodge pickup stalled on the side of the highway. The driver of the stalled truck was outside the vehicle but was not injured.

The bus was carrying the driver, two adults and 32 children, five of whom were taken to Grand Itasca Hospital to treat minor injuries.

The ages of the children haven't been released. All parents were notified.
