5 people shot overnight in Dinkytown, investigation underway
Authorities are investigating an overnight shooting that occurred near the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus.
Per a university safety alert issued just after midnight on Saturday morning, it happened near the intersection of 14th Ave SE and 4th St SE., a commercial area dotted with bars and restaurants.
"Stay out of the Dinkytown area," the alert warned.
Five people — three males and two females — were shot in the incident, Minneapolis Police Department spokesman John Elder tells BringMeTheNews.
Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, with two being apparent "graze wounds." All the victims were taken to area hospitals by ambulance.
The shooter fled the scene before police arrived. Authorities have yet to release a description of the suspect.
