A 5-year-old boy accidentally shot a 3-year-old girl at a home in Bena, Minnesota, the Cass County Sheriff's Office said.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the home at 3:54 a.m. on Aug. 13 and learned the girl was shot by "accidental gunfire" in the home, according to a news release.
The girl's family was bringing her to the hospital and was intercepted by the Deer River Ambulance. Lifesaving efforts were attempted, but the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The investigation into the girl's death is ongoing. No other details have been released. Autopsy results are pending.
