A 5-year-old boy died after becoming trapped under a car that hit him Saturday night.

The Minneapolis Police Department says the boy was hit around 9:25 p.m. while crossing Memorial Parkway near Knox Avenue North.

The boy was transported to North Memorial Medial Center, where he later died. The medical examiner will release the boy's identity, along with his cause of death.

The boy, who was out trick-or-treating, was with adults when he was hit, Minneapolis police spokesperson John Elder told the Star Tribune. It's not clear if the boy was crossing at a designated crossing or if he was wearing reflective clothing.

Police say the driver who hit the boy stopped and is cooperating with police. Officials note alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the incident.
