A 6-year-old boy was killed Sunday night when "several" unsupervised children found a handgun and the boy was shot, the Moorhead Police Department says.
The incident happened in an apartment in the 400 block of Sunrise Circle. The boy "received a gunshot wound" from the gun, and police located him inside the apartment.
He died from his injuries, the police department said.
His immediate family has been notified and the other children that were there are safe, police said.
The gun was recovered inside the apartment and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension processed the scene.
