6-year-old boy suffers minor injuries in fall from Mall of America escalator

The boy fell from an escalator near MOA's Sea Life.

A 6-year-old boy was taken to the hospital Monday after falling from an escalator at Mall of America.

According to Bloomington Police Department, the child fell from the top of an escalator near the Sea Life exhibit. The boy was alert and talking before being transported to a local hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries.

The fall was accidental and not the result of any escalator malfunction, police say.

There are two sets of escalators near MOA's Sea Life and it's not clear which one the boy fell from, nor is it clear how far he fell.

All of the above information was echoed in a statement from Mall of America officials.

"Today, Bloomington Police and Mall of America security responded to an incident involving a six-year-old falling off an escalator railing. Upon arrival, the juvenile was alert and conscious and was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The escalator was operating properly at the time of the incident."
