6-year-old safe after being taken with stolen vehicle in St. Paul
A day after a 1-year-old was abducted during a vehicle theft in Minneapolis, the same thing happened to a 6-year-old child who was in a car that was stolen in St. Paul.
Fortunately, both children were found safe shortly after the vehicles were stolen.
In the case of the 6-year-old inside a stolen vehicle on Sunday evening, the child was found safe minutes after the Chevy Impala was stolen just before 7 p.m. from a Walgreen's parking lot at 1585 Randolph Ave. in St. Paul.
The vehicle and 6-year-old were located just two blocks away, near Macalaster Street and Niles Avenue, according to police. The girl was unharmed.
On Saturday, an AMBER Alert was issued after a 1-year-old was inside a white Jeep Grand Cherokee that was stolen in north Minneapolis. The boy was found inside the Jeep hours later after the vehicle had been abandoned and left running in a church parking lot in Brooklyn Center.
In both incidences, the children were inside idling vehicles.
According to the Star Tribune, Minneapolis had 3,904 auto thefts reported in 2020, up from 2,873 in 2019.
