The tragic incident happened on Friday morning.

A schoolboy was killed Friday morning in a collision in Eagan.

Eagan Police Department says that a 7th grader, who was on a bicycle, died after his rear wheel was hit by a vehicle on Diffley Road near Lexington Avenue at around 7:20 a.m.

The 13-year-old boy, identified as Patric Vitek, was found by officers in the road with "multiple injuries," and died a short time later at Regions Hospital.

The boy is a student at Dakota Hills Middle School, which is near to where the collision happened, and whose principal Trevor Johnson confirmed his death in an email to parents Friday morning, per FOX 9.

Eagan Police Chief Roger New says the driver of the vehicle was heading eastbound on Diffley Road in the center lane, and remained at the scene after the accident.

Diffley Road is a busy one near Dakota Hills Middle School, Eagan High School and Northview Elementary School, with a Cub Foods grocery store also nearby.
