Eight Minnesota counties remain below the 50% vaccination rate mark among those ages 12 and up.

Now 18 months into the COVID-19 pandemic, with free vaccines widely available and infections — including among school-age children — surging, more than half of all vaccine-eligible individuals in these counties haven't received even a single dose.

The eight counties, from lowest to highest vaccination rate, are:

  • Clearwater — 42.9%
  • Todd — 45.8%
  • Pine — 47.5%
  • Wadena — 47.7%
  • Kanabec — 48.9%
  • Mille Lacs — 49%
  • Morrison — 49.4%
  • Meeker — 49.7%

Statewide, 3,381,239 people age 12 and up have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine. That's an overall rate of 71.9%. Ten counties have a 12-plus vaccination rate of at least 70%: Olmsted, Washington, Hennepin, Dakota, Carver, Cook, Scott, Ramsey, Lake and Carlton.

Six of the counties still below the 50% threshold (Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Todd and Wadena) are located in a line stretching from east-central Minnesota into the center of the state.
