An 8-year-old girl is in a critical condition in the hospital after the car she was traveling in was in a collision with a semi truck in northeast Minneapolis.

The Minnesota State Patrol initially reported that the 8-year-old had died following the incident on Highway 23 at Kerrick at 7.50 a.m. Friday, but has since updated its log to indicate she is alive but has serious injuries.

"We are looking into how this information was misreported," Lt. Tiffani Nielson told the Duluth News Tribune.

The girl's mother, 31, was driving the Ford pickup when it was in collision with the semi, and she suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver's 11-year-old son was also hurt, but his injuries are also not life-threatening.

The driver of the semi, 47-year-old Daniel Wimmer, did not have any apparent injuries.

The Pioneer Press reports that the collision happened just over an hour after another fatal crash involving a semi truck in southwestern Minnesota at the intersection of Minnesota 30 and County Road 18 near Pipestone.

According to a State Patrol incident log, the semi driver allegedly failed to obey a stop sign and broadsided another car, killing the driver of an Audi A6

Both incidents are under investigation.
