Seeking witnesses who may have seen mystery crash

By any chance were you driving on I-94 near Highway 280 on the western edge of St. Paul last Tuesday morning at around 5:30? If you said yes, the Minnesota State Patrol wants to hear from you.

KARE reports that investigators are seeking help to sort out what led up to a fatal one-car crash that occurred at that time. FOX 9 reports that the driver lost control of his Chevy Trailblazer on the icy overpass and plunged off the right side of the westbound I-94 bridge over Highway 280.

The SUV landed in the median of Highway 280, killing the driver on impact. The State Patrol has identified the victim as 29-year-old Uriel Isidoro of South St. Paul.

The Star Tribune reports that what's puzzling about the case is that the accident happened in the busy area around 5:30, but the SUV was not discovered until shortly after 7:30 a.m., according to the State Patrol.

“It’s unusual in that the crash occurred about 2 hours before it was reported,” said patrol Lt. Eric Roeske, “so we are just looking for anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed anything.”

The State Patrol said that traffic management cameras show several vehicles nearby at the time of the crash. Anyone who may have seen the crash or the aftermath is asked to call 651-539-1151.

Black ice contributed to 350 crashes and 170 spin outs on Minnesota roads Jan. 27-28.
